City walks and private views

Explore Birmingham during the festival through a programme of guided walks and visits to interesting buildings in the company of designers, architects and developers.

On Sunday 1 June, Birmingham’s regeneration will be explored through a tour of canalside Warwick Bar and you can get ideas for your own home from an energy tour of Balsall Heath Ecohouse.

On Monday 2 June, architect Glenn Howells will show how, when it comes to creating a sustainable city, Birmingham is pushing the boundaries. Visit the viewing platform for The Cube and hear about it from the architect. And visit The Rotunda, one of the city’s iconic buildings, with Urban Splash.

On Tuesday 3 June, there is a tour of Birmingham’s secret green roofs.

On Wednesday 4 June, a personal view of Birmingham's great city centre by Ken Shuttleworth, born and raised in Birmingham and founder of Make Architects, behind the Cube. Take a guided tour around historic Bournville, George Cadbury’s dream of a sustainable community, or visit Fort Dunlop, a RIBA Award-nominated building and discover how it's working to combat climate change, such as with its green roof. You can also see how the Big City Plan will transform Birmingham into a low-carbon walking city in a walk by Urban Initiatives.

On Thursday 5 June, there is an energy tour of Walsall Ecohouse (also on Sunday 8 June) and an opportunity to find out more about eco-Summerfield.
